On Sunday 4 December the 2016 final of the Vertical World Circuit was held at the ICC. This race which is organised annually to raise funds for two local charities – The Community Trust and The Hong Kong Council of Social Service – requires competitors to climb as quickly as possible up 100 floors of the highest skyscraper in Hong Kong.
For the first time FIS was represented this year by 16 students aged between 12 and 17 years old (across both French and international streams) divided into 4 teams of 4 for the Secondary relay category.
Arriving at 7:30am as stipulated in the rules, our runners were happily guided by the race organisers to the different levels for the relay.
The elite runners set off at 9:00am. Our students began to tackle the 2120 steps at 9:23am exactly to finish the race at 9:40 for the fastest team closely followed by the 3 others. Although they didn’t make the podium, our runners were all smiling with satisfaction at their achievement. This wasn’t an easy event but everybody said they’d like to do it again next year.
They were able to enjoy the great view from the 100th floor where entertainment and a hearty breakfast was waiting for them.
