Shanghai Basketball Tournament 2017

Incredible performances in the 2nd Asian Basketball Cup in Shanghai! The girls’team won the title in style and the boys made it to the final without losing a game.

The boys’ team put in some excellent performances, notably in the semi-final against Manila. Our boys started off really well in the final against Shanghai but lost 51-37 in the end. Shout out to Bertram, Paul, Lois and Raphaël for their great performances the whole tournament. After a slow start to the competition, especially against the German school, they pulled off a major feat by beating the tournament favourites, Shanghai, in the semi-final after a nail biting match. They went on to control the final end to end against Tokyo and won the title 26-22. Special mention to Kayleigh (MVP of the tournament), Céleste , Ambre, Inès and Raphaëlle  who had a fabulous tournament in terms of playing level and involvement. Antoine, the trainer

Recently the FIS girls and boys went to Shanghai to compete in the Asia-Pacific basketball tournament. There were several teams from different places throughout this tournament such as Manila, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai, Germany and of course Hong Kong. We had some long and cold days. During the first day, we played against the German team. My team and I won by around 10 points, and next were the boys. The boys played fantastically against Shanghai, they won by 41-19. On the following next day, the girls played against Shanghai for our semi-final game, and it was quite a close game. During the last minute of the game we were down by 1 point, and all I thought was to win and do it for the team; 30 seconds left on the clock and all I know is that I have the ball in my hand. I take the shot from the 3 pointer line and all I heard was screaming and shouting, and it went into the hoop. We did it, we had won and were off to the finals. We won by 22-21. The following day, it was finals for both of the FIS teams. The girls were up against Tokyo and the boys were up against Shanghai. During the first half of the girl’s finals game we were leading by 10 points, but it got fairly close towards at the end of second half. We eventually beat them by 4 points. The boys were up, and they played well throughout the whole game, but they unfortunately lost by 50-37. After all the games, it was the award ceremony \where they announce the winners as well as the Most Valuable Player throughout the tournament. After a long journey, the girls have achieved an incredible honour of First place. Not only that, but I was awarded MVP for the tournament.

Overall this was one of the best experiences of my sporting career as I’m sure it was for all of us. I developed better friendships with the girls, the boys team as well as I made different friends from different teams. I just want to thank my team not only for the win but for all the things we’ve gone through together. Of course I wanna thank Mr Delettrez and Mrs Bell-Kake for being the best coaches and making this trip possible. Once again, excellent job to the girls and well done to the boys!
