The Race 2017 – Discovery College, Discovery Bay

4 May 2017News, Uncategorized

It was an early start for competitors starting with a walk around the course before the competition started. Each race had over 80 competitors from different International schools in HK.

Up first were the Under 8 girls and then the boys. They had to run a distance of 1.7km. Everyone put in a fantastic effort with all finishing in the top half. A special mention must go to Liam Glynn who was amazing and just missed out on a medal coming in 4th place and Charlotte Debard came in 12th for the girls team.

In the Under 9s races, again all came in within the top half over the 2.1km course, many racing for the first time. For the boys, Rio Waddington came in 27th and Bianca Rowley was fantastic. She was challenging for second and third place all the way but was pipped at the end and came in 4th. Although a little disappointed not to medal, Bianca showed true grit and determination producing one the of the day.

The Under 10s and Under 11s had to run a distance of 3km and the competition was particularly tough, some of the strongest fields I have seen over the last few years. All ran their hearts out putting in every ounce of effort right to the very end. Notable results were Zara De Saint Vaulry finishing in 34th place in the Under 10s girls race and Chloe Houriez finishing a magnificent 19th in the Under 11s race. In the Under 11s boys race Adam Scholar finished in 19th and Maksim Ducasse was 15th, both putting in excellent performances.

I would like to thank Miss Ki and Mr Tait for helping me on the day and Mr Atkinson for his organising of the team. Parents who brought and supported the children, I am sure you are proud of all their efforts. Finally the children, every single one of them did the school and more importantly themselves proud. The effort and drive they all produced was so pleasing to see, well done all of you.

Mr Phillips
