Blue Dancer, Green Dancer
Congratulations to FIS students Bianca R. and Coco B. for performing their classical and contemporary variations at the FIS Family Fun Fair. Le Corsaire, Le Petit, Je te laisserai des mots, and Giselle were staged by International Principal Ballerina Madame Venus Villa. The ballets were selected by their French origins or music to celebrate the school’s 60th anniversary.
They were arranged into one performance titled Blue Dancer, Green Dancer after the famous Degas paintings shown in the photo attachments.
Ballet dancers are typically known for their grace, poise, and dedication – but professional dancers are often fitter and stronger than other traditional athletes. Bianca and Coco train every evening after school, all day Saturday and some Sundays, whilst balancing their academic studies at FIS. Both girls agree that the discipline and focus that Classical Ballet teaches them also helps them organise themselves in their personal and academic lives.
Bianca and Coco have recently won first prizes in several international dance competitions in Hong Kong, and they will attend summer intensive training in Europe: Bianca will be at The Paris Opera Ballet School, and Coco will train at Royal Ballet School London.
Is ballet harder than football? The girls will tell us when they return.
