Meeting with Mr. Dominique de Villepin
On Friday, March 22nd, 2024, around fifty students from the high school welcomed Mr. Dominique de Villepin, a diplomat, French politician, and Prime Minister from 2005 to 2007, to the school’s library (CDI). Introduced to their classmates by Margaux, Paul, and Matthieu, 11th-grade students of HGGSP (History, Geography, Geopolitics, and Political Science), Mr. de Villepin engaged with great kindness and didacticism. During the meeting that lasted a little over an hour, the high school students learned more about the burning current events surrounding the personality of Vladimir Putin, tensions in Ukraine, Gaza, and the question of Taiwan. The famous speech in 2003 at the Security Council and the role of the United Nations were also discussed thanks to questions from two middle school students, Ulysse and Theo, as part of their preparation for their oral examination. Mr. de Villepin concluded with some advice that will remain in the memories of the younger generations regarding “the importance of thinking for themselves, not getting scattered on social media, and not letting anyone decide for them.” The message came across.
