French Accelerator
With the end of the year approaching, we’re already hard at work preparing for the start of the new school year in September. Among the new features for the new school year, we’d like to introduce you to a new programme that’s very close to our hearts: our French Accelerator.
This programme will take place on Jardine’s Lookout campus and is designed for children aged 6 to 10 (CP to CM2) whose families want them to enter the French school system even though they don’t speak French.
How does it work?
- The beginning francophone student will be enrolled in a BIM class at his or her age level. At the start of the school year, they will follow a number of activities, chosen according to the needs of each child.
- The rest of the time, they will be integrated into the French Accelerator programme, with a teacher who specialises in French as the language of instruction.
- There, he or she will learn the vocabulary of everyday life, school life and the various disciplines. They will communicate in French, learning to formulate their ideas and make themselves understood.
- The student will spend a maximum of one year in the French Accelerator programme.
Every two months, the pedagogical team will meet to assess the student’s progress and adjust their schedule accordingly. Depending on their progress, the student may be phased out of the French Accelerator programme and be integrated into their regular class full-time and supported by the FLSco programme.
But then does the FLSco support that we have known for several years disappear?
No.
Both programmes will coexist. The French Accelerator programme is intended for students new to the French language, while the FLSco programme is intended for students who still need to improve their French language proficiency.
