Two important visits to FIS

Issue 25: 21/4/2023

Dear FIS Community,

I am thrilled to share two important visits (one recent, one upcoming) to our school that highlight the significance of FIS in the French community in Hong Kong.

Last Monday, we had the pleasure of hosting the newly appointed French Ambassador to China, M. Bertrand Lortholary, at our TKO campus. A group of our primary and secondary school students led the visit and shared their experience of studying at FIS. They also had the opportunity to interview the Ambassador. It was a memorable experience for our students, who had the chance to engage with a high-level diplomat and learn more about his role and the importance of diplomacy in Franco-Chinese relations. An opportunity to learn that the French embassy in Beijing opened in 1964, a few months after the founding of our school!

We are also excited to welcome French senator Jean-Yves Leconte to our Blue Pool Road campus next Monday. Senator Leconte will meet with some of our high school students, answer their questions, and dialogue with representatives of our faculty and staff and the leadership team. This visit is, again, a testament to the significant role that FIS plays in the French community in Hong Kong and the continued support of the French government to our school.

At FIS, we take pride in our commitment to providing a high-quality bilingual education that enables our students to thrive in a global society. We believe that engaging with prominent figures such as M. Lotholary and Senator Leconte not only enriches our students’ learning experience, it also reinforces the importance of diplomacy and international cooperation. It is little surprise then that, between these two visits, from today until Sunday April 23, our very own high school students are hosting on our TKO campus a large Model United Nations conference with 120+ delegates from close to 15 schools in Hong Kong. This student-led event was initiated, developed, and fully implemented by our students who deserve praise and recognition for their agency and efficacy.

Warm regards,

Dr. Emmanuel Bonin
Head of School
