On Tuesday, 27 June 2023, the 4ème students of TKO Campus (led by M. Blondeau, M. Long, and M. Brady) took the 8:30am HK Central Ferry to Mui Wo, where they were greeted by team members of the HK registered charity Ark Eden, an eco-education and permaculture centre that restores forestry via native plants to the surrounding area, and implements sustainable solutions for the global environment.
Founder and Project Designer, Jenny Quinton, led an all-day workshop with her team members (Vanessa and Cayman) where students participated in the following activities:
- A time to share students’ personal relationships with nature
- An educational talk by Jenny Quinton on permaculture and living sustainably on a local farm;
- Team building activities that promoted community and solutions to everyday problems;
- Designing and building individual permaculture farms on small of land, broken down by zones, in small teams;
- Hiking to the top of a mountain to plant over 40 individual endemic trees to help build and sustain local forestry and prevent further erosion.
Students finished out the day with refreshments, closing remarks, and testimonials before heading back to the Mui Wo Ferry.
It was an uplifting, educational, and fun-filled day for 4ème students and their teachers, and a fantastic way to spend the last week of school before the summer holidays.
