60th Anniversary Gala – How your participation supports the school’s strategic objectives

Issue 38: 29/9/2023

Dear FIS Community,

I hope that everyone is aware that FIS is celebrating its 60th anniversary, and our year-long activities will culminate with the return, after five years, of our FIS Fund-raising Gala! This select event will welcome up to 300 people for an exciting night of culinary delight and entertainment at the Aberdeen Yacht Club, November 25. As I whole-heartedly encourage all of you to consider joining and purchasing your tickets or making donations, I also wanted to explain how funds raised through this gala will support our students.

In the spring of this 60th anniversary year, FIS adopted an ambitious strategic plan for the Future of Our students, the Future of our School.  With 80% of its operating budget dedicated to the compensation and benefits of its 400+ faculty and staff, FIS must raise funds in support of its strategic objectives. Below you will find four areas of prioritisation in our entire strategy for which money collected during this gala will be used.

Our spirited and confident students: FIS should inspire every student to reach their fullest academic potential.

The strategy calls for a greater consideration for choice in pathways for our students. FIS wishes to maintain and expand the vast array of its courses, including in offering alternative courses in its French and International Baccalaureate high school courses.

Our talented and supportive team: FIS should provide professional development for life-long learning.

Research has shown that effective PD has a great impact on student learning. FIS wishes to provide further world-class opportunities in this area.

Our academic and collaborative learning environment: FIS should address current and predicted trends in innovation.

We must equip our students with the skills needed through a greater integration of educational technology. The cost of this cannot be funded solely through our operating budget.

Our diverse and engaged community: FIS should lead, model, and focus our community efforts in helping achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Through prior generous donations from our green partners, FIS is able to implement an ambitious holistic gardening program and to start deploying a series of solar panels on its roofs. For this, FIS received a number of recognitions, including from the French government for whom we are among the few schools in the world to demonstrate the highest level of sustainability. Further efforts and progress will require additional funding.

Again, the scope and timing of change will partly rely on our resources, and what better way to support our efforts than a Diamond Jubilee Gala celebration with a wonderful dinner with friends and members of the community, silent and live auction, and a number of surprises?

Thanks in advance for your consideration.
