Staff Spotlight: Wilson Vera Avila
The Staff Spotlight series was introduced to both recognise the hard work of our staff who go above and beyond throughout the year, as well as introduce them to the wider school community, outside of their respective stream or department.
Each issue of Le Bulletin will shine a light on our talented and supportive staff from across the entire school (Leadership, Early Years, Primary, Secondary, French Stream, International Stream, Administration) with some “fun facts” and a Q&A that will allow the community to get to know them on a more personal level.
In this issue, we have Mr Wilson VERA AVILA.

I have been working in the Vie Scolaire department for three and a half years, but I have been with the school for seven years.
2. In a few words, what’s the most rewarding thing about working at FIS?
I believe that the most interesting aspect of working at FIS is the multicultural environment. The opportunity to exchange different points of view enriches me personally.
3. What is the best thing that has happened to you this year (at FIS)?
The best moments at school have been and will certainly be the days when we welcome the children to Jardines with music.
4. What hobbies / interests do you have?
I enjoy exploring hiking trails, playing squash and badminton, swimming, Latin dances, music… Photography, chess, and Pokémon GO.
5. Best thing about living in Hong Kong?
I think one of the best aspects of Hong Kong is being able to switch between the tranquility of the hills and beaches to the incredible vibrancy of a city that seems never to sleep.
6. Favourite type of food or cuisine?
I enjoy eating everything. I am always ready to taste and discover new flavours.
7. Favourite book or movie?
It’s difficult for me to make a choice, but if I have to mention one book, it would be “Death with Interruptions” by José Saramago, and one film would be “The Girl on the Bridge” by Patrice Leconte.
8. If you could pick any superpower, what would it be and why?
I would like to be able to control time so that I could go back each day and do everything I wouldn’t have had time to do.
