Sustainable Development Film Festival: Presentation of the Planet, Prosperity and People Awards

Numéro 63: 10/5/2024 , , Actualités

The 3rd edition of the International Film Festival on Sustainable Development is officially launched!

Planet category

The event dedicated to the Planet category took place today on the TKO campus, which was decked out for the occasion with beautiful recycled artworks created by our students under the guidance of Mr. Jouaud. A selection of 5 films, out of the 14 in the category, took us on a journey to Vietnam (Hanoi, a city that recycles), Thailand (Plastic Dragon), and to the depths of the oceans (Fading Shadows: the silent extinction of sharks)… The issue of plastic waste was at the heart of several films, and fitted in perfectly with the talk given by our exceptional guest, The French Girl, who presented her work (exhibited in the TKO hall for the duration of the Festival) and more generally “Sustainable Art” to our students. She was honored by Nina Martin’s beautiful film A Giant Pink Can. In the end, it was The Sustainable Choice (Vivien Jagmag, Canadian International School of Hong Kong), an animated film of particularly impressive creativity and meticulousness, that won the Jury’s favor. The Silver Award went to Fading Shadows: The silent extinction of sharks, a cry of alarm about the fate of sharks, and more generally of our oceans, by Louise and Tomoé (French International School, Hong Kong).

Prosperity and People categories

Friday saw the screening of Prospérité (economic issues category) and Personnes (social issues category). Des livres et des histoires, winner of the first category, recounts the efforts of ecodelegates from Phnom Penh’s Lycée René Descartes to raise funds to support the Taramana charity’s library project. The Golden Award in the People category takes us all the way to Santo Domingo with Breaking Barriers, about gender inequality! Well done to all!

You can find all these films, and many more, on the festival page.

And don’t forget to register here for our closing day, Friday May 17, from 16:00 at TKO!
