On Wednesday May 8, the first and last year students in the SES book prize club voted for their favorite books. This was the culmination of a year’s reading, during which a dozen students each read around four or five books in this field, and were able to discuss them afterwards with each other, as well as with Mr. Guillaume Clément, Economics and Social Sciences teacher. This is a national prize organized every year by SES teachers, in conjunction with the Liens Socio, Lectures website, Alternatives Economiques magazine, the Enjeux Les Echos daily newspaper and MGEN.

At LFIS, the students chose “Quand bien manger devient un luxe”, a book by Benjamin Sèze, as their first choice. Second place went to : “Capital et Idéologie en Bande dessinée”, by Claire Alet and Benjamin Adam, based on Thomas Piketty’s bestseller. Finally, a more practical book took third place: “L’économie et les sciences sociales selon Picsou”, by Thierry Rogel.

All that remains now is to await the national verdict, which will be awarded at the end of May in Paris, taking into account the votes of the various high school juries, including the one in Hong Kong.
