FIS Froggies: the 24hours Charity Dinghy Race

15 November 2016News, Uncategorized

On November 5 and 6, the FIS sailing team participated in the annual 24hrs Charity Regatta at Hebe Haven. The purpose of this event was to collect funds for four charities: Sailability Hong Kong, TREATS, Ideal and Children’s Cancer Foundation.

29 boats were at the start line Saturday at 2pm. Matthew Clark and Lockie Peters from International Stream were the first to start the FIS boat. After 2 hours, they handed over the boat to the next team for 2 hours each and so on. Despite light winds during the whole event, Hugues Bertet, Timothée Bourrut Lacouture, Joana Bruwer, Zoé Bruwer, Augustin Clot, Juliette Clot, Arthur Desmazures, Ulysse Ha Thuc, Gwenn Hasle, Malo Kennish, Alexandre Lahaye, Antoine Piras, Alban Raffard, Nathan Turner, Bertille Voets and Oriane Voets took shifts for 2 hours each until Sunday 2pm. Some of the sailors sailed in the middle of the night, because the boat had to keep going.

Our FIS sailing team concentrated very hard because all Hong Kong top sailors were competing in the same Division (RS Feva). FIS crossed the finish line 4th, only 32 seconds after the 3rd placed RHKYC team. Out of the 29 boats overall, the FIS team finished 6th place. Big congratulations to the whole team.

Some of the FIS sailors did not get much rest during this weekend because they also sailed for other teams. A special mention to Timothée Bourrut Lacouture, Zoé Bruwer, Joanna Bruwer and Nathan Turner who finished 1st in the Pico Division in their HHYC team. Matthew Clark, Ulysse Ha Thuc, Oriane Voets and Bertille Voets came 3rd in Feva representing the RHKYC in their “Sharks” team.

Thanks to the FIS for their constant and infallible support for the past three years and thanks to the volunteer parents. FIS was able to raise HKD 17,500 that will all go to the charities.

Next sailing event for the FIS Froggies is March 4 and 5, 2017 at the Interschool Festival (RHKYC).
