FIS gets involved in Redress Clothing Drive

Redress’ purpose is to reduce waste in the fashion industry which, though less recognised, is an increasingly concerning problem contributing to pollution in Hong Kong.

As one of our first projects with the organisation, we decided to join Redress in their Get Redressed x Miele Clothing drive 2017 for which we collected old and second-hand clothes between the 6 – 17 November. Students and staff alike donated any unwanted pieces of clothing and/or accessories by dropping their items into collection boxes located around the school, giving the FIS community a chance to redirect your unwanted clothes from landfills to local charities such as Friends of the Earth, Pathfinders, St James Settlement, Green Ladies.

Following the drive, members of the Couture Team spent an afternoon with Redress at their warehouse in Tai Wai, sorting and organising donations from the clothing drive according to different charities.

Joining this drive allowed us to learn a lot more about the organisation. It was also very enlightening to see the countless number of Redress boxes filled with donations lined up from one end of the room to the other. This demonstrated the success of the drive which FIS Couture is so proud to have been a part of.
