The FIS Equestrian Team (Lower Division) competed on Friday 2 December 2016 at Lo Wu Saddle Club. It was the first time this season we have had the full team of 4 girls competing:
- Sharlen Daveau (Y7)
- Leelani Neveux (Y8)
- Nikki Thorne (Y7)
- Laura Bennett (Y6)
The competition was the second “Mini” Inter-school competition for the FIS team (i.e. a mock competition in preparation for the all-important Heat date next year) for the season. FIS competed against Hong Kong International School, German Swiss International School, Nord Anglia International School and Australian International School Hong Kong. All 4 girls rode very well and did FIS proud. They all jumped 50-60cm and did the Ingestre Preliminary Dressage Test 1 (2013). Sharlen placed 6th in jumping and 4th in dressage. Laura placed 3rd in dressage.
After Christmas the girls will embark on an intensive training regime in order to prepare themselves for the Heat on 17 March 2017. The Lower Division competition is open to riders aged 10-14 years. The Heat is critical because the 4 teams with the highest scores will proceed to the competition final. The HKEF Inter-school Equestrian Challenge is the largest equestrian competition for youth in Hong Kong with 120 riders competing from over 20 schools.
The girls would like to express their thanks to FIS for its ongoing support – particularly in relation to their lovely new team shirts which attracted quite a bit of attention from the other schools on Friday afternoon!
