Primary students celebrate Book Week

Book Week 2018

A busy week started off with students and teachers dressing up as their favourite character from a book. A fun Assembly gave everybody the chance to enjoy all the costumes.

The week continued with visits from authors Holly Thompson, Gus Gordon and Anjali Mittal who held workshops and met with different year groups.

We also welcomed Wendy Wan-Long Shang, author of “The Great Wall of Lucy Wu”, one of the 20 Battle of the Books titles for this year.  A signed copy of her latest book “This is Just a Test” will soon be available at JL Primary library for students to enjoy.

The students had a great week – read some of their comments below:

Year 1

I liked [Holly Thompson’s book] because there were a lot of animals. Alex

I liked it because Holly read the book to me. Erica

I liked it because Holly said many things about the book. I liked the book, it was really nice. I liked when Holly said to think about words for a story we had to create. Koen

Year 2

I really liked the twilight illustrations, it’s inspired me to draw twilight pictures too.  Asha

Year 3

I really liked Gus Gordon visiting us. I loved his books and his drawings are amazing! He is so good at what he does. I hope that one day I can draw just like him. Kayla

I loved Gus Gordon´s books and dressing up was really super fun. I love his drawings they are such a good example for other artists. He is so good at drawing and painting and I want to be just like him. Neil

I really liked Gus Gordon because he is very creative and nice, I want to be just like him one day. Tatiana

Year 4

I really likes Gus Gordon’s books because I liked how he added different material to his pictures. Charlie

Anjali Mittal’s inspiration for writing some of her stories was Kenya. She showed us pictures of the safari animals. She made me want to write more stories. Sanjana

I liked learning to use our imagination to continue writing a story from a given paragraph. Liam
