Sailing success at the Interschool Racing Festival

Over the sunny-skied weekend of the 10-11 of March, French International School raced in the annual Boase Cohen and Collins Interschools Racing Festival against 18 other educational establishments from across Hong Kong and Macau. Our teams, consisting of inexperienced and skilled sailors from both the Primary and Secondary International and French streams, sailed a grand total of 20 races. In the end, both our Feva and Pico teams performed spectacularly, placing 1st and 4th in our divisions respectively.

The team aced the qualifying rounds, winning 3/4 races in the Feva and 5/6 races in the Pico, which allowed us to qualify for Gold Fleet and gave us a chance to win the regatta. On Sunday, after a demoralising morning in the Pico, which made us drop short of the podium, the team was more than ever determined to win in the afternoon and managed to secure a 4th place. On the contrary, our Feva team was flying across the course, parading a continuous winning streak to tie for 1st place with West Island and ISF Academy. The last two races sailed against these teams were the most intense and involved some noteworthy tactical skill, communication and co-operation between the team members – even the commentators were left speechless and no one was sure of the outcome until prize-giving. FIS won as we had the lowest combined points out of all our races, reflecting the amazing teamwork within the Feva team.

FIS has a history of strong sailors – in 2016 our team also won the Feva division, thus we hope to successfully defend our title next year as champions!
