This event led by Thierry NOGARO was to raise awareness of athletics, self-discipline and performance but was also to allow the French and International streams to be together. It was a great chance to hold a project common to both streams, an opportunity to be taken more frequently!
A written questionnaire showed that the students collectively loved the day. Their favourite event was the 4 x 100m relay.
Lucie: “It’s great to mix with students from the International stream – we can make new friends and catch up with friends who changed streams. I liked the 4 x 100m relay best as it was a group event with the whole class cheering on the runners, and the 800m because it was the first time that we’d done this race on Sports Day.”
Emma and Pauline: “It was well organised. There was a teacher at each station and lots of different activities and the warm up was more accessible for everybody in comparison with last year.”
Jules: “We had great fun! We trained and tried out several sports we had never done before. It was good to be with students from the International stream that we didn’t know so well. We were wondering what their level would be and they were pretty good.”
Finally, Jules and Lucie concluded with “For the relay at the end, each class supported their own team – it was funny! Everybody tried their best in the activities and excelled themselves while having fun.”
During these sporting challenges, students knew to put their “class identity” first rather than their individual performances. They were able to strengthen their civic and social skills which tells us about the culture of the school and the value of such a day.
These few lines serve to highlight the work of our teachers and underline the essential role of PE in our students’ development. We should recognise the wider implications of taking part in sport as an essential vehicle for education, teaching and socialisation.
A big thank you to everybody!
